Registration, not a trading licence

FinCEN regulated brokers

Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, United States

34 brokers list FinCEN in our register. FinCEN is a US Treasury bureau. Money services businesses register with it for anti-money-laundering purposes. That registration is not a licence to offer trading, and brokers dealing in US derivatives are supervised by the CFTC and NFA, or by the SEC and FINRA for securities.

What FinCEN protection means

General facts about the regime. What applies to you depends on the licensed entity and your client category.

  • FinCEN registration shows AML compliance obligations apply; it does not by itself give clients any compensation scheme.
  • For US forex and futures, check NFA membership (NFA BASIC) and the CFTC. For securities, check FINRA BrokerCheck and the SEC.

Registration, not a trading licence. An anti-money-laundering registration. It shows the firm is on a list, not that it is licensed to deal in leveraged products.

FinCEN: frequently asked questions

What protection does a FinCEN licence give clients?
FinCEN registration shows AML compliance obligations apply; it does not by itself give clients any compensation scheme. For US forex and futures, check NFA membership (NFA BASIC) and the CFTC. For securities, check FINRA BrokerCheck and the SEC. These are general facts about the regime; what applies to you depends on the licensed entity and your client category.
How many brokers list FinCEN in your register?
34 of the brokers in our register list Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Records are refreshed as new regulator information is checked, and a listing here is a pointer, not proof of a current licence.
How do I check a FinCEN licence?
Open the FinCEN MSB registrant search and search for the business name. Confirm the licensed legal entity matches the company in your account terms and that its status is current.
Does a licence mean a broker is safe?
No. A licence shows a regulator authorised a specific legal entity for specific activities. It does not guarantee the firm will not fail or treat clients fairly. Check the entity you actually contract with, and that its status is current.

We take no affiliate commissions from brokers, prop firms or educators, and rated entities cannot be our affiliates. Verdicts are computed from regulator records and are not for sale. verify.trading provides records and analysis, not investment advice; trading involves significant risk of loss. Absence of a regulatory action is not an endorsement, and absence from a regulator's list is not proof of authorisation.
